Well, they are finally settling in to normal family life. Brooke is almost herself and that is nice to see. She can start to drive again so that makes her feel better. Makes us feel better too, cause she calls us to babysit while she goes to the store. Unfortunately, 8 days after coming home they both got a cold. It also passed to me and now Joe and Susan. I'm sure we'll all get over it, but it's hard to hear Sam struggle to breathe with mucus. Brooke is trying to keep his nose clear. We have saline drops and an aspirator to work with.

I'm sure that most people have not seen where the live in Greensboro, Sunset Hills. So I have attached a movie which is a tour of their house. It is a remodeled 1945 built brick house on a corner. If they want to attend a Moravian church, then it is across the street. Their neighbors are very helpful and Brooke is happy with where they live.

This is all for this post. Life goes on and we will see ya'll later. Everyone keep safe.

Bye-Bye

The Caraher Family is Home

The new family has returned to their home. Two people went to the hospital but three are returning. Brooke is still recuperating and trying to settle into a routine. The routine of sleep 3 hours then feed 1 hour, then sleep 3 hours then feed 1 hour, etc. is not something that comes natural to her. It tires her out. Plus you know how she will dwell on figuring things out so she thinks she needs more water, or maybe more exercise, or etc.

We are trying to leave them alone as they try to get into a new rythm of family life. But it is hard to do. We call too much and ask if they need help. Joe is doing a great job of supporting Brooke during her adjustment to motherhood. He cooks, cleans, holds, rocks, changes (I think) the new addition. I have yet to change, I just assist in getting the stuff they need.

Joe has to start back to work Monday, 11/17 and Susan has a week of vacation left. So Susan will be with Brooke all day every day for the week, which is just breaking Susan's heart (oh right). After that Thanksgiving comes so Joe will be out for awhile which will be good.

If I'm nice they even let me hold him, if I'm real careful.

I have a little slide show of the new family below. It is such a heavy burden to have the cutest grandbaby in the world, but we will just have to grin and bare it. Actually, the grinning part is not that hard to do.
The best to all
Pops and MamaSue (Susan can't make her mind up, maybe we will take a vote)

He's here: Samuel Thomas

Brooke delivered at 5:21 PM, Saturday, 11/08/2008. He was 21", 8 lbs. & 5 oz. A little bit big for my little girl. The baby was so strong that he kicked a hole in the placenta and she went in at 5 PM, Friday. She could never dilate enough to deliver the baby so 24 hours later they did a C-section. The doctor said the shoulders were so wide that it was going to be difficult even if she did dilate to 10cm. So it seems the C-section was a good decision. Baby and Mom are doing great and we are waiting to see if they go home on Monday or Tuesday. I feel proud that she named him after me as well as her husband (Joseph Samuel). Since I have my new camera toy, I will be an obnoxious granddad and post pictures or movies most every week for awhile. He certainly went full term and I told her he looked like he was born 3 months old. Brooke and Sam are learning their job as it pertains to nursing him. Thank goodness Joe gets a week off to stay with Brooke and then Mimi gets the next week. Susan has been saving her last week of vacation for this moment. She can't wait until it's just Sam, Brooke, and Mimi quiet time. I hope Sam does his part for the quiet time. So far he has been a perfect disposition baby. He's loud when he's hungry but sleeps his fair share. Except when he has to be entertainment for grandparents.

Brooke did a great job and Joe was with her every minute of the time. They did a good job of giving us a great grandchild. I know they are going to make a very fulfilling family. Brooke is a nurse so she keeps them well and Joe was a guidance counselor so he maintains Sam's perfect behavior. Well, we can dream, can't we.

If you see a parital post, it's because I hit a double key stroke and it said post published. I had just started it. Anyway, thanks for checking in and all the best to you.

Waiting for the baby

We are waiting for our grandchild "Baby-C". Susan can't wait for this first child and is about to jump out of her skin as she is trying to get Brooke (40 weeks pregnant) to jog around the block or maybe try trampolining. Anyway we are just trying to past the time until we get "the call". We are even working longer at our part-time jobs to keep from thinking about it. I made a movie while we were setting up the nursery, so you can see that if you are that bored.

Susan and I just got back from Myrtle Beach where she met with two of her high school best friends as a mini reunion. It was a wonderful time.
